Kansas City home building activity picks up faster than nation in 2010


Home building showed signs of recovery in the Kansas City metropolitan area last year, prompting optimism for 2011.

Permitting activity increased 14.7 percent to 2,471 permits in 2010 compared with the prior year, even though 2010 was the third-worst year on record, according to data from the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City. That amounts to more than $91 million more in construction value pouring into the local economy, the association said, adding that 316 more single-family homes were built last year than the prior year.
