Sight Takes Service to the National Level
Chances are you know Dan Sight.
If you're a commercial practitioner, you've probably done a deal with Dan, taken one of his classes or served on a board or committee with him. And many KCRAR members, both commercial and residential practitioners, know Dan as former president of the Kansas Association of REALTORS® and the Johnson County Board of REALTORS®.
For years, Dan has worn many local and state association hats. His service this year alone includes being a KAR Director, a member of the KCRAR Building Committee and a Kansas RPAC Trustee.
But did you know that Dan's taken on a very large role with the National Association of REALTORS®? He is the 2010 Vice-Chair of the REALTORS® Commercial Alliance (RCA) Committee, a precursor to serving as the committee Chair next year.In his capacity as Vice-Chair this year, his role is to support the Chair, Blaine Walker, in achieving the 2010 goals. At the same time, Dan is working to get a handle on NAR Commercial services and think of ways to improve them for 2011.
Dan's approach to his volunteer service remains the same regardless of its scope."I have always had a simple vision when it came to my leadership at the various levels of organized real estate," said Dan. "It boils down to this question: 'How can we help our members make money?' That always has been my drive and will be my drive next year as RCA Chair."
For this year, Dan says RCA has three goals:
1) To monitor the evolving legislative and regulatory issues affecting commercial real estate through our Commercial and Legislative Subcommittee and assess action. We are working to prioritize in-district meetings with members of Congress that are on the Financial Services Committee. These meeting are to make them aware of the issues facing current and future borrowers of commercial real estate.
2) Engage and empower Commercial boards and structures and NAR Commercial affiliates regarding NAR Commercial initiatives, benefits, products and services. We want to make sure all the commercial groups around the country are aware of the vast array of tools and education that they have available to their members. It's important now for NAR and RCA to give our members the tools and education that they need to succeed in commercial real estate.
3) Increase cohesiveness, synergy, and cooperation at Staff, Volunteer and Member levels engaging the NAR Commercial division, NAR commercial affiliates and the NAR Global division. Build stronger relationships with consortium of commercial real estate organizations to leverage collective strength and influence actions and policy
Next time you see Dan, please thank him for his extraordinary commitment!

Commercial Leg/Reg Subcommittee Met in Early February
The major objective of the meeting was to set 2010 goals for NAR Commercial. A priority among those goals is to conduct Congressional Roundtable meetings. Several meetings have been held to keep Representatives aware of commercial real estate market issues - especially liquidity for loans. More in-district meetings are scheduled.
Are your members constituents of a House Financial Services Committee member? View the list of committee members today here and contact your Association's Government Affairs Director to inquire about arranging your own commercial real estate roundtable meeting.
